Marie Collop, starting pitcher for the softball team, received an honorable mention to the 2011 AAAA all-state team. Collop was the only player in Region 6 selected for the team, propelled by her 13-1 record and 1.59 earned run average. The pitcher also batted .633 with a 1.06 slugging percentage. Collop led a standout Lady Viking squad that was Region 6 runner-up with losses only to Marist in the regular season and region tournament. Both Lakeside and Marist fell in the first round of state tournament. Coach Tricia Newmyer complimented her all-state standout. "Marie is a great leader and has an incredible work ethic," she said. "Not only is she a strong pitcher, but she can literally play any position on the field. She does a great job helping with younger players and encouraging new ones."
