Beer Growler Nation held a blood drive in the Oak Grove Shopping Center on Friday, partnering with the American Red Cross as a part of their Year of Giving.
Owners Kelly and Constantine Mihalis began the Year of Giving in December when a home burned down in the neighborhood behind the Oak Grove Shopping Center.
In response, Beer Growler Nation decided to donate 10 percent of their sales from Dec. 23 to help the displaced family.
"We just thought what's a way that we can do more of this and make it easy for people to help out in the community," Kelly Mihalis said.
Each month since then Beer Growler Nation has partnered with a different community organization including PAWS, St. Baldrick's and Camp Twin Lakes among others.
"We're just trying to make it easy for our customers to do some good throughout the year and feel like they're contributing to the community," Mihalis said.
All 30 available donation appointments were booked as of the beginning of the drive which went from 2:30 to 7:30.
"We're really happy to be able to do this for our area and particularly for our community right here," Mihalis said. "The community has been really responsive to all of our events to date."
Next month Beer Growler Nation will be partnering with the Georgia Transplant Foundation to encourage customers and members of the community to come in to the store and have their cheeks swabbed so that they can sign up for the bone marrow registry.
"A friend of ours passed away from leukemia and he did get a bone marrow transplant and he got an extra year and a half with his family so its really important to us," Mihalis said.
