A selection of crimes in our area reported to DeKalb County police.

Armed robbery and carjacking on Hollywood Drive

An armed robbery and carjacking took place at the intersection of Valley Brook Road and Hollywood Drive on December 12, police said.

The victim said that two unknown men stole his vehicle, a 2004 four-door Lexus GX 470 with Georgia tag AGB 8415, at gunpoint. He was driving on Valley Brook Road when an unknown vehicle (dark colored, possibly a sedan), stopped in front of him and attempted to make a left turn onto Hollywood Drive. The victim was approached from behind by the first suspect on the drivers’ and the second suspect on the passengers’ side. The second suspect shot a round of bullets, shattering the passenger window. The first suspect shouted “get out of the car before I shoot your [expletive] off!” The victim did so. Both suspects got in his car and drove off.

They were last seen driving behind the unknown sedan. A man driving a black Mercedes Benz followed behind the suspects too. The suspects abandoned the stolen car at the intersection of Valley Place and Orion Drive.

The victim said that inside his car were two bags of money to be deposited from a nearby Chevron station (3384 East Ponce de Leon Avenue) and each contained $7,000. One bag was taken, but the other was recovered. The victim was driving to the bank when he was carjacked.

Three witnesses saw the scene.

The first suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, about 5’7”, 150 pounds, wearing a white hoodie and pants.

The second suspect is described as a black male armed with a silver handgun.

Robbery at Red Roof Inn

A woman was choked and robbed in a room at the (1960 North Druid Hills Road) on December 13, police said.

At about 4:25 am, the victim said a man she knows only as “Rico” came to the hotel along with his girlfriend, who stayed in the car the whole time. Rico followed the victim into the bathroom, choked her and demanded her money. She said her money was in her purse, which he took $100 from before leaving.

The victim’s friend, who was sharing the room with her, was there during the altercation, but left soon after and did not answer the phone when the victim tried to call her. The victim was not injured.

No further information is known about “Rico.”

Burglary on Black Fox Drive

A house on the 2000 block of Black Fox Drive was burglarized on December 9, police said.

The victim said she was away from 9 am to 2:45 pm, so during that time, unknown suspects took a rear glass sliding door off its track to enter the house. Once inside, they took the victim’s gold earrings, diamond tennis bracelet, gold bracelet and pearl earrings from her bedroom dresser.

Robbery of a homeless man

A man sleeping on a mattress under an overpass on North Druid Hills Road was robbed on December 9, police said.

The victim said he was asleep on a mattress under the overpass when he felt a man going through his pockets. The victim woke up and the suspect demanded his money, forcefully digging through his pockets. The victim fought back as much as possible, but the suspect took his money (total $30) through force and left the scene, where the victim then went to a pay phone and called police. A witness saw the suspect go through the victim’s pockets and the struggle that ensued. The suspect was placed in custody.
