Crime & Safety

Crime Blotter, Sept. 25-28

A selection of crimes in our area reported to DeKalb County police.

A series of public storage unit break-ins

Many units at the Public Storage, 2080 Briarcliff Road, were damaged overnight between Sept. 25 and 26, DeKalb County police said.

A woman who lives in an apartment on the property was notified of damage to a storage unit. She went to investigate and found that the door had been pried open on that unit and that the suspect then punctured the wall of that unit to get into the one next to it.

The suspect also broke into a gray storage trailer by prying off a door handle, forced open four consecutive storage units, punctured the wall of one to get into the adjacent units, repeated the same puncturing process for those adjacent units and went into a different storage building next to it. The forced entry and puncturing happened again in the other building. Many of the units broken into were in disarray and there were two holes in the perimeter fence.

While the property has a video surveillance system, the cameras were positioned so that they could not record the incident. It is unknown at this time if anything was taken from the units.
