Georgia Walk to School Day with Oak Grove Elementary

Atlanta, GA- Oak Grove Elementary School in DeKalb County, Georgia will kick-off spring walking and bicycling season by participating in Georgia Walk to School Day on Wednesday, March 7, 2012.  Approximately 450 students and their families will start walking or bicycling to school at 7:15 a.m., with walking school buses and bicycle trains arriving at school by 7:40 a.m.   Once at school, children will proceed to their classes and parents will stay for a breakfast reception hosted by Joan Kaplan, a local realtor and Oak Grove parent.  The DeKalb County Police Department will provide escorts and traffic direction at various locations in the Oak Grove neighborhoods near the School and DeKalb County Commissioner Jeff Rader is expected to attend.

Oak Grove Elementary School joins many other Georgia schools also participating in the event.  Sponsored by the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School Resource Center, Georgia Walk to School Day compliments International Walk to School Day held each fall.  Georgia Walk to School Day has become an annual event, held on the first Wednesday of each March..
