IHM Student Named a Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholar
Tommy will receive academic advising and financial support for opportunities to develop his gifts and talents.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation selected Tommy Kim, an 8th grade student at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, as a 2014 Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholar.
More than 1,000 high achieving 7th grade students nationwide applied for this scholarship and Tommy was notified of his acceptance this month.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s scholarships are designed to encourage and support outstanding students from 7th grade through graduate school who have a breadth of interests, work hard, demonstrate a strong will to succeed, and have financial need. Their scholars come from 48 states, plus the District of Columbia, and 38 countries.

Tommy is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, The Pride of the Eagles Advanced Band, the Lector Ministry, the Boy Scouts, the St. Pius Youth Honor Band, the IHM Math Team, the IHM Basketball Team and the Korean Martyrs Catholic Church Altar Server Ministry. He participates in the Fernbank Fun Volunteer Program and the John’s Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Summer Camp. He is the 1st chair percussionist in the Georgia Music Educators Association District Honor Band. As a 7th grader, Tommy scored a 2030 on the SAT. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf.
Mrs. Tracey LaFreniere, one of Tommy’s teachers states, “Tommy is an exceptional student who works very hard at all that he does. I am sure he will go on from IHM to do great and wonderful things.”

Tommy Kim hopes to one day become a prominent musician or have a career in science.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation was funded by donations by the late owner of the Washington Redskins.
