Lakeside High School Music Students Kick-Off Annual Fundraiser Oct. 2
Students will sell fresh citrus fruits from Florida through October to raise funds for the school's band, orchestra and chorus programs.
Students enrolled in Lakeside High School’s award-winning music programs will sell fresh citrus fruits from Florida Indian River Groves beginning Oct. 2 to raise funds for the school’s band, orchestra and chorus programs. Orders will be taken through October, with delivery scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2. Students will go door to door throughout the community, and customers may also order directly at https://www.floridaindianrivergroves.com/orderFundraising_ns11.asp?OrgId=340129. Questions may be sent to lakesidecitrus@gmail.com. Funds raised from the citrus sale help underwrite the cost of free public concerts during the school year, and also are used for a variety of music department needs including new instruments, instrument repair, travel expenses, music costs, guest conductors and clinicians, group lessons and competitions.
In addition to working together to raise funds for the music program, Lakeside’s band, orchestra and chorus students will combine their musical talents to perform several free concerts for the public this fall and early winter. The Fall Chorus Performance will be held Wednesday, Oct. 11, the Fall Orchestra Performance will be held Thursday, Oct. 26, and the Fall Band Concert will be held Thursday, Nov. 2. All will be presented in Lakeside’s Fine Arts Auditorium at 7 p.m. and all are free to the public. The school’s band, orchestra and chorus will perform together at the popular Holiday Pops Concert Thursday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. in the school’s gym and will present the Holiday Gala Concert on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Both events are free and open to the public.
“I am counting on the community to once again support the annual citrus sale to benefit Lakeside’s music program,” said David Guthrie, president of the Lakeside Band Association. “So many local families have had kids participate in one or more of the music offerings at the school, and countless others have enjoyed the free concerts, parades and other public musical performances by band, orchestra and chorus students. We are extremely fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated music staff at our public high school, and the high caliber of Lakeside’s music education is due to their efforts: David Fairchild, director of bands, Michael Giel, symphony orchestra director and Thomas FitzStephens, chorus director.
