Jack is in love with Gwendolen. Algernon is in love with Cecily. But Gwendolen and Cecily are both in love with Ernest, who in fact does not exist. In a tangle of delicious wordplay and mistaken identity, the lovers also face the indomitable force of Lady Bracknell.
One of the most loved and enduringly popular plays of all time, Earnest is brought to new life by directors Chris and Greta Hayes. The production is Ms. Hayes’ directorial debut at Lakeside. She was named Lakeside’s new Drama Teacher this fall. The production will be Lakeside’s school’s entry in the County One Act Competition on October 25.

Working within the social conventions of late Victorian London, the play’s major themes are the triviality with which it treats institutions as serious as marriage, and the resulting satire of Victorian ways.
