RoadRunners, Shallowford's Senior Adult Group, Kicks off Second Decade
Announces Monthly Outings, Welcomes New Members
Celebrating a decade at Shallowford Presbyterian Church, the members of the church’s senior adult group boldly announced RoadRunners as its new name. A full schedule of ten monthly excursions is planned through May 2016 that includes a tour of the Federal Reserve Bank and the Delta Flight Museum. With a nod to the fun-loving spirit and vitality of its members, the name RoadRunners also symbolizes the group’s activities that feature monthly road trips both within Atlanta and beyond.
Shallowford member Barbara Houze founded the group, first dubbed Hi! Seniors, in 2005 with a vision of creating a resource for a new generation of adults at the church and in the neighborhood. The group welcomes both church members and people in the community to participate.

“Today’s senior adults are so very different from their parents or grandparents both physically and in their outlook,” said Barbara. “I wanted to connect with that group and create monthly excursions that would be appealing and fun for myself and others.”
Over the past ten years, Hi! Seniors, now RoadRunners, became a traveling group that visited local museums and popular restaurants from the Atlanta History Center to Mary Mac’s Tearoom and many more too numerous to mention. It also provided an opportunity for participants to experience something new, or revisit an interesting spot or share their knowledge on a topic or a place, all in the company of a welcoming, friendly group of fellow travelers.
