St. Pius

' girls basketball team was given a fright but march on undefeated in the region with a valuable 33-29 win at Riverwood.

Riverwood fell further behind, 31-21, with 2:30 left in the game but came back, trimming the lead to a just few points. However, St. Pius, led by Emma Ucinski's 10 points, buried a series of late throws to ensure a solid lead in Region 5A-AAA.

"I was really pleased with our defensive effort.  The shots weren't falling early, but like we always talk about as a team, defense always travels. When you are on the road, if you give a great defensive effort, you stay in the game until we can start knocking shots down," St. Pius coach Kyle Snipes said. "And that is exactly what happened in the game."

Lakeside

's boys (4-15 overall, 1-10 6A-AAAA) were no match for division rival Tucker on Tuesday night. The Tigers ran rampant in an 81-49 win that condemned Lakeside to a sixth-straight loss.
