North Cobb High School Freshman Dies on Overseas Field Trip

A North Cobb High school freshman has died during a field trip to Belize.
Tomari Aliijah Jackson had been reported as missing while he, his class and chaperones were visiting the Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, reports WDEF. He was later found dead after a search.
A Cobb County schools spokesperson confirmed Jackson’s death in a statement on Monday.

Jackson went missing from the group of 32 students and six chaperones while the group was in shallow water near a river bank. The U.S. Embassy is working to coordinate their return.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of this talented North Cobb High School scholar and musician,” according to a statement from Cobb schools, as reported by the AJC. the statement. “Our immediate priority at this time is caring for and supporting his family and all the students, families, and school staff impacted by this tragic event.”

Cobb schools are currently on a winter break.
