Gwinnett Police said a man was critically wounded after a Thursday morning stabbing near Norcross, apparently by his roommate.

Police said it isn’t clear what provoked Joseph Dillinger, 36, to allegedly stab the man multiple times around 7 a.m. Thursday at 6463 Sage Street, located in an unincorporated area south of the cities of Norcross and Peachtree Corners.

Gwinnett Police public information officer Cpl. Michele Pihera said Dillinger, who was superficially wounded in the incident, has been charged with aggravated assault.

Pihera said officers from the West Precinct answered a 911 call around 7 a.m. about a nude man covered in blood at the front of the residence. Police found the man with multiple stabs wounds standing in the driveway near a car that also was covered in blood. The victim’s name was not immediately released.

“While waiting for a responding ambulance, the victim was able to tell the officers that his roommate (Joseph Dillinger, age 36) had stabbed him while they were inside the home,” Pihera said. “It is still unclear what provoked Dillinger to stab the victim.”

As of 11 a.m., the victim was in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville.

Dillinger was sitting near the front porch at the house when police arrived, Pihera said. He was treated at the hospital for minor wounds, then taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.
