27 Adults, 15 Children Displaced in Peachtree Corners Apartment Fire

The fire on Terrace Court happened Sunday morning just before 11 a.m.

More than 40 people were temporarily displaced by a Sunday apartment fire in Peachtree Corners.

Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said all 10 units of an apartment building in the 3201 block of Terrace Court were impacted by the Sunday morning fire, displacing 27 adults and 15 children due to fire damage and the utilities being cut off. The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance.

Firefighters arrived on scene at 10:55 a.m. and had the fire under control at 11:18 a.m.

On arrival, crews found an active fire in the attic and a common wall in the two-story wood structure.

“The flames broke through a roof ridge on the right-corner of the building before being brought under control.” Rutledge said in a press release. “Firefighters worked fast and did a great job of stopping the fire from consuming the roof. The majority of the fire damage was contained to the attic [on the right-side of the breezeway] and a common wall that runs the middle of the building.”

The cause of the fire was no immediately known. It appears to have started in the area of the common wall, and worked its way up to the attic, Rutledge said.
