3-Month-Old Baby Killed, Gwinnett Police Seeking Father

Police say the baby's father hasn't been seen or heard from since Tuesday, the day before the little girl died.

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA β€” A 3-month-old girl from Gwinnett County is dead and police are seeking her father on charges of murder in the case.

The little girl was brought to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite last Saturday, Sept. 9, after police were called to the apartment in Peachtree Corners where she lived. The original complaint stated that the girl was having problems breathing.

But hospital staff noticed other injuries, including fractured ribs and bleeding from her brain.

The case was assigned to a Gwinnett County Police detective and it was determined that the injuries happened while the child was in her father's custody, said police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera. Her father β€” Charles Hamilton, 44, of Atlanta β€” was at the apartment caring for her on Sept. 9 while the baby's mother went to a laundromat to wash clothes.

Police say Hamilton has not been seen or heard from since Tuesday and the baby died on Wednesday. Police say an autopsy revealed significant head trauma, leading them to consider the case a homicide.

There are active warrants for Hamilton's arrest on charges of murder, cruelty to children and aggravated battery. He is described as a black male, about 5-foot-6 and weighing about 155 pounds. His last known address was on Roswell Road in Atlanta.

He may be driving a tan, 2008 GMC Yukon with license plate TRINI3. The front license plate display is a flag of Trinidad.

"Though all homicides are tragic, it is truly heart-breaking when the victim is an infant," Pihera said. "Because of Adrian’s premature death, we will never know her true potential. We pray that her mother will find solace in knowing that Charles has been charged with this heinous crime."

If anyone has any information to share in this case or knows of Charles’s whereabouts, they are asked to contact GCPD detectives at 770-513-5300. To remain anonymous, tipsters may contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or visit the Crime Stoppers website.

Crime Stoppers tipsters can receive up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case.
