Gwinnett County will be home to multiple live nativity scenes and performances during the Christmas season.
Live nativity scenes have become a popular attraction for folks seeking a little bit of Christmas spirit.
In Gwinnett County, there are plenty of chances to get a live and up-close rendition of the Christmas story. From a church that’s sponsored live nativities for over a half-century to the glitzy show out at Lake Lanier, there will be nativity scenes aplenty.
Here are five of the live nativity scenes that will come to life in Gwinnett County between now and Christmas.

Lake Lanier Islands Magical Night of Lights

Where: Lake Lanier Islands
When: Dec. 1-25
Details: The live nativity is just part of the 20th annual holiday celebration at Lake Lanier Islands. Millions of sparkling lights will be on display at the paid event, along with the traditional cast of live characters. Other attractions include Santa’s Workshop, a Holiday Village with marshmallow roasting, crafts and pony and amusement rides and a skating rink. Admission fees vary.

Snellville United Methodist Church
Where: 2428 Main St. East, Snellville, GA 30078
When: Dec. 5-7, 6-8:30 p.m.
Details: “Journey to Bethlehem” will let visitors join a family traveling to pay their taxes. The live nativity includes a trip to a marketplace where merchants peddle wares (including live chickens) and storytellers tell the Biblical story of Christ’s birth. Mary and Joseph, Roman soldier and live animals, including a camel, are part of the experience, and visitors will get to dip candles and make dolls.

Christmas in Dacula
Where: 202 Hebron Church Road, Dacula, GA 30019
When: Dec. 6, beginning at 4:15 p.m.
Details: A 30-minute live nativity performance will be part of the second-annual Christmas in Dacula festival. Other attractions and events range from a 5K run and musical performances to a Santa’s Village for kids and arts and crafts vendors.

Simpsonwood United Methodist Church
Where: 4500 Jones Bridge Cir, Norcross, GA 30092
When: Dec. 11-13, 7-9 p.m.
Details: Live farm animals, shepherds, angels, Roman soldiers and wise men will be present, as hundreds of candles light the way to the “Walls of Bethlehem.” Merchant shops will sell realistic wares from Biblical times.

Bethlehem First United Methodist Church
Where: 709 Christmas Avenue, Bethlehem, GA 30620
When: Dec. 22-23, 8-9 p.m.
Details: It’s not the same “little town” from the Bible tale. But Bethlehem has been the home to a live nativity scene every Christmas for more than 50 years. The “Big White Church,” as Bethlehem First United Methodist is known, will host the free nativity show on the town square.
