South Atlantic Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated welcomed its new Gwinnett County Graduate Chapter, December 13th, 2014. On this historic day (12/13/14), Seventy Alpha Kappa Alpha women were received and certified as Charter Members of Psi Omega Omega with the charge of Launching New Dimensions of Service and Sisterhood in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. The chartering ceremony and luncheon were held at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel and was witnessed by more than 450 guests; Lisa Rayam, Fox 5 News Anchor served as the Mistress of Ceremony. During the chartering luncheon, community treasure and Tuskegee Airman - LC Johnson was presented with the Psi Omega Omega 2014 Service Achievement Award for his repeated contributions and service throughout the community. As a local resident of Gwinnett County, LC Johnson continues to serve as a staple in the community by impacting and empowering surrounding neighborhoods. “I believe that success comes from giving back to the community.” His contributions to service remain active with the Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful Advisory Board, Salvation Army Lawrenceville Advisory Board, Salvation Army Metro Atlanta Advisory Board, Gwinnett Housing Authority Board, Peachtree Corners City DDA Board, United Peachtree Corners Civic Association, Atlanta Chapter of Tuskegee Airman and various community organizations. In honor of LC Johnson’s unsurpassed commitment to service, Ora Douglass, Psi Omega Omega President announced immediate plans to award a scholarship to a qualified student attending High School in the Peachtree Corners community. Psi Omega Omega Chapter will honor its commitment to service by continuing to support the following established programs within the community:
· Mentoring 6th – 8th grade girls at the Ivy Preparatory Academy
· Volunteering at the Robert W. Fowler YMCA

· Volunteering for the Peachtree Corners Festival
· Partnership with Belk at the Forum in Suits for Success for women seeking employment

· Collecting and donating food for the Norcross Cooperative Ministries and other food pantries
· Providing educational materials to create awareness about heart disease and diabetes
· Participating in breast cancer awareness walks
· Collecting and distributing gift cards for children aging out of foster care
· Collecting and donating Toys-for-Tots in collaboration with The Salvation Army
