United Cerebral Palsy of Georgia held its annual Community Awards dinner reception on September 19, 2012 at Maggiano’s of Little Italy Restaurant. UCP honors individuals and groups making significant contributions to the organization’s mission to support people with disabilities. Peachtree Corners’ resident, Scott Howard, along with fellow Georgia State video production graduate students Matt Mammola and Joe Heath, were each awarded UCP’s Advocacy Award by Ouida Spencer, Chair and Diane Wilush, Executive Director, for the creation and production of a public service announcement film, “People First”. As part of their graduate study, the purpose of the video was to create awareness about United Cerebral Palsy and to encourage the inclusion of people with disabilities in community life.
Scott, who currently is pursuing a graduate degree in moving images/video production at Georgia State University, graduated from Norcross High School in 2005. He has direct life experience with individuals with developmental disabilities, as he assisted his parents in raising and caring for his older brother, Robbie, who since 2004 has been residing in a Snellville community group home owned and operated by United Cerebral Palsy of Georgia.
