Black American Mothers Deserve Break

Financesonline.com releases an infographic in time for Mother's Day.

Collated data has a way of showing up some trends, and the infographic

http://financesonline.com/mothers-day-will-black-american-moms-be-celebrating-it/ indicates how black American mothers may be facing a harder time than Asians, whites, and Hispanics. Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau and other trusted sources, the infographic suggests that African American mothers have less education, more uninsured kids and are likely to raise them as a single parent.

The figures are not absolute; rather, they indicate a pattern that raises the red flag for black American mothers. More tellingly, they are falling behind in four key areas: marriage, divorce, number of children, and household expenditures.  How could an ethnic group be falling behind in a country that prides itself on equality for all?

Far from creating a picture of despair, the infographic presents the facts to highlight a topic that many readers are less likely to talk about: race inequity. The infographic presents an opportunity to discuss and find solutions to address this age-old social inequity that extend to this day.  Wouldn’t Mother’s Day be perfect if all mothers truly have a fighting chance to give their children a brighter future?
