"WE DON'T...."

Looking for a place to volunteer? Looking for an organization with a heart as big as yours? Consider being a volunteer today with Angels Among Us Pet Rescue!

So many times have we have heard those words at the start of a sentence and it immediately caused our senses to prepare for something "unpleasant"... something "not to our liking"...something that meant we'd be "disappointed" or "let down" in some way or situation.

I have to admit to you, at least in the beginning, that was usually my response to hearing those words at the start of a sentence - that is, until I came to volunteer for those beautiful animals I had seen for weeks on the Angels Facebook page - animals I had lost sleep over...the new mom who was so terrified of everyone that she ran away from her foster home and newborn babies because it...waking up at all hours of the night, feverishly checking Facebook to see if she had been spotted, found, brought "home" to her babies and the loving family worried sick about her, and being so joyous when she was found and returned home safe!

It quickly became apparent that even though my own heart still ached violently over the loss of my own precious pet who one month shy of her 13th birthday, passed from my arms to the rainbow bridge, and even though I still had a precious rescued pup at home, I was finally ready to reach out and give what was left of my heart to other animals in need of all the support they could get on their journeys "home".

As I approached some of the "Angels" at the first adoption event I attended, it suddenly hit me: everywhere I looked, there were "angels" either standing or sitting or kneeling with a wonderful animal - all these pets looking at everyone who passed, as though to say, "Hey, look at me!"  "Hi, I'm looking for a heart and home - do you have one for me?"

As I stood over to the side, watching this wonderful man lovingly adopt a beautiful Boxer dog named "Patrick", one of the things I overheard in the conversation was...."well, we don't...." and I thought to myself, "oh, no....here it comes!" and prepared to hear a possible "NO" to his wish to adopt.

But, to my everlasting surprise, what I heard next completely ensured me I, indeed, was in the RIGHT place - with the RIGHT group, and on the RIGHT mission!  She said, "In Angels, we don't leave family behind - we don't separate families, nor take babies without also taking the mom, we don't leave the sick to die, we don't look past the elderly or feeble, and we don't breed discriminate."  WOW!  What a powerful statement!

In the world of rescue, too often we rushed to get lives saved and adopted, moving animals through the system so room can be made for others in shelters scheduled to die by the hour, and ALL OF THAT is so very important!

However, there is also much to be said also about the "humane" side of rescue, in the types of lives we save!  Families need to be rescued together, the sick can often be made whole, the elderly can still enjoy many moments of grace and love with a family, and all breeds deserve the chance to be loved, re-homed, and made safe in a world too often willing to abuse instead of protect.

Won't YOU consider today getting involved with Angels Among Us Pet Rescue?  There is a place for everyone in this organization where the term, "we don't" more often than not means something positive and makes wonderful things happen every day for those voiceless souls who depend on us to speak for them and carry their message far and wide.
