Busy Gwinnett Intersection Finally Re-Opened After Crash
Power lines were knocked down at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, causing massive traffic delays in the area.
UPDATE: The intersection was re-opened to traffic shortly before 4 p.m. on Thursday. Gwinnett Police said traffic delays were still expected to be heavy in the area.
NORCROSS, GA — Massive traffic delays continued around Norcross on Thursday afternoon, hours after one of Gwinnett County's busiest intersections was closed due to a crash.
The early-morning crash at the intersection of Jimmy Carter and Peachtree Industrial boulevards downed power lines and a traffic light pole. Police say the wreck, at roughly 2:15 a.m., may have been the result of a street race.

By mid-afternoon, there was still no forecast time for work at the intersection to be complete.
"This is one of the major traffic arteries in Gwinnett County and there are massive traffic delays in the area," Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Deon Washington said. "We strongly encourage people to stay away from the area while crews work to repair the signals."

The closure caused crippling delays in and around Norcross during Thursday morning's commute. Police described "gridlock" on North Peachtree and Holcomb Bridge roads and were advising motorists to use alternate routes north of the city.
