City Council Approves Ordinances, Discusses Billboard Litigation

In a Special Called Meeting held at Thursday, June 5, 2012, the Peachtree Corners City Council gave final approval to adopt a number of Gwinnett County ordiances.

City leaders adopted 19 ordinances in all; 18 ordinances that were mirrored from the county's ordinances on a variety of categories that included business licenses and permits and alcohol and pawn shops.

The final ordinance the City Council approved covered Sexually Oriented Businesses. The ordinance the city adopted is a slight variation of the one followed by the county. The Peacthree Corners ordinance provides clarification and updated language which are designed to ensure the city's interests are protected.

The Council also heard two reports from Acting Attorney Bill Riley, one concerning Gwinnett County billboard litigation and a report on the solid waste intergovernmental agreement with the county.

Riley made a brief presentation to City Council concerning two suits that have been filed against Gwinnett County involving billboard litigation. City leaders gave Riley the go-ahead to investigate whether there was any need for possible action to protect the city.

In his second report, Riley discussed the solid waste intergovernmental agreement between the city and county and relayed the county's request that the city continue the service currently in place.

Mayor Mason suggested a work session to discuss the county's proposal.

Over 20 residents attended, all council members were present.

The next meeting is a Public Hearing to set the millage rate. It will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 7 a.m. at the . There will be a second Public Hearing the same day at 6:00 p.m. at the same location.
