Commissioners Approve SPLOST Funds for Future I-85 Interchange

Agreement would build interchange at McGinnis Ferry Road; Commissioners also OK'd two fiber-option road projects.

Gwinnett Commissioners approved spending nearly $5 million in SPLOST funds to improve congestion in the county, including the framework of an agreement with the Georgia DOT for a future interchange on Interstate 85 at McGinnis Ferry Road

The county said in a Tuesday press release two other approved contracts will connect two dozen traffic signals on Suwanee Dam and Indian Trail roads to the Gwinnett Traffic Control Center.

The county will contribute $4 million to purchase right-of-way and agreed to manage the preliminary engineering of the McGinnis Ferry interchange. The funds come from the 2009 and 2014 SPLOST programs.
