Flash Flood Watch Extended for Peachtree Corners

An additional 1 to 3 inches could fall through Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Watch for north Georgia through Sunday evening.

The area includes all of metro Atlanta, including Peachtree Corners and Gwinnett County.

The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday, with an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain expected.

“This could cause flooding of streets, creeks, and streams,” the weather service said.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING... THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR AREAS IN NORTH GEORGIA GENERALLY ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE EXTENDING FROM FRANKLIN TO COVINGTON TO WASHINGTON.

PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN WILL CONTINUE ACROSS NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA TONIGHT AND INTERMITTENTLY THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING WITH AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 3 INCHES OF RAINFALL. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS WILL BE POSSIBLE. SATURATED SOILS FROM RAINFALL OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS ALONG WITH THE ADDITIONAL RAINFALL EXPECTED MAY CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OF ROADWAYS AND ESPECIALLY AROUND CREEKS...SMALL STREAMS, LOW LYING AND URBAN AREAS.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TURN AROUND DON`T DROWN! YOU SHOULD MONITOR FUTURE FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.

The chance for precipitation through the region on Sunday is 60 to 70 percent, the weather service said.
