Gwinnett Police: Taxi Driver Suspected in I-85 Hit-and-Run

Police say the taxi swerved in front of an SUV, causing it to roll several times Monday afternoon near Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

Gwinnet Police are looking for the driver of a taxi cab suspected in a hit-and-run accident this week on I-85 near Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

The accident, which sent an unknown number of people to the hospital, occurred around 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15. The taxi, tan or champagne in color, allegedly cut in front of a black Ford Explorer while both were traveling south on the freeway.

The driver of the Explorer swerved and lost control. The vehicle rolled several times, police said. The taxi reportedly stopped on the side of the road, but left before officers arrived.

“Witnesses claimed the taxi was at fault in the accident for cutting off the Explorer [unsafe lane change], police said in a news release. ”Investigators do not believe there was contact between the two vehicles. No one was able to provide a tag number or information on the taxi company.”

Police said the occupants of the Explorer were transported to local hospitals, but no information on their conditions was available.
