Gwinnett's Last Radio Shack Stores To Close
The electronics chain is shutting down 185 stores as part of a bankruptcy liquidation.

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA — Gwinnett County's last two Radio Shack stores will be shutting their doors soon, as part of a massive round of closures for the once-dominant electronics chain.
The chain has announced that its locations in Lawrenceville and Peachtree Corners are two of the three Georgia locations that will be closed as part of bankruptcy proceedings that will see at least 185 stores shuttered.
General Wireless Operations Inc., Radio Shack's parent company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protections earlier this month.

The Gwinnett locations that are closing are at the corner of Lawrenceville Suwanee Road and Sugarloaf Parkway and in the Marketplace Shopping Center at 6135 Peachtree Parkway.
A Radio Shack location in Chamblee also is closing.

The closures are the latest round of cost-slashing for the company, which was a dominant player in the technology world of the 1980s but faded amidst rising competition from other quarters, including big-box shops like Best Buy and the internet itself.
The closures, which have not yet been scheduled, are not expected to leave empty storefronts. Sprint stores that currently operate within the Radio Shacks will take over as sole owners of the spaces, according to the company.
