I-85 Crackdown on Speeding, Distracted Drivers Starts Tuesday

The state of Georgia is joining a multi-state effort focused at unsafe commercial vehicle drivers.

Drivers on Interstate 85 throughout Georgia should expect to see law enforcement officers targeting truck drivers in a 72-hour crackdown.

According to a news release, the Georgia Motor Carrier Compliance Division will take part in a multi-state campaign to target unsafe driving by commercial vehicle drivers on I-85 from South Carolina to Alabama. The campaign will begin Tuesday, Sept. 16, and end Thursday, Sept. 18.

Officers will focus on distracted, reckless and impaired drivers. Commercial vehicle drivers who are speeding, texting while driving, following too closely, and driving while fatigued will be cited and can be given out-of-service orders if they are found to be a safety hazard, said Major Gene Davis, MCCD commanding officer.
