Interstate 85 Lanes Shut After Suicide Jump

Gwinnett Police said a jumper leaped to death from Indian Trail overpass

NORCROSS, GA -- Southbound lanes of Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County were shut down Tuesday afternoon after an apparent suicide.

Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Michele Pihera said someone jumped to their death Tuesday afternoon from the Indian Trail overpass on I-85 near Norcross. Police did not immediately have an identity of the jumper, but a passerby told them it appeared to be a woman.

The first call to police came at 11:53 a.m., Pihera said. The jumper leaped from the bridge before officers arrived.

The Georgia Department of Transportation was reporting as many as five lanes shut down on the busy highway during the incident.
