Man Suffers Serious Burns in Peachtree Corners Condo Fire

Firefighters responded around 1:30 a.m. to a report of a mattress on fire in a bedroom on Deerings Lane.

A man was seriously burned during an early Tuesday morning condominium fire in Peachtree Corners, according to fire officials.

The man was taken to Grady Hospital; his injury was not considered life-threatening, Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in a news release. There were no other injuries reported.

The fire, called in as a possible mattress fire in the bedroom, occurred after 1 a.m. in the 6400 block of Deerings Lane. Firefighters arrived on scene at 1:33 a.m. Firefighters contained most of the fire damage to the unit of origin.

The fire caused heavy damage to the condo, and extensive smoke damage to two adjoining units, Rutledge said.

The cause is under active investigation by the fire department.

Four people were displaced from the condo building.
