Background: Mathnasium’s TriMathlon contest is designed to engage kids in math and to support local schools. Children at all levels of math ability are invited to participate. In addition to winning medals, all students will earn money for local schools just by participating. The top scorers across all TriMathlon competitions will be invited back to the center the following weekend for a Grand Prize tie-breaker competition.

Participation is free.

The TriMathlon consists of three events:

Β· Magic Squares, where students are awarded points for developing their own math problems.

Β· The Counting Game, which tests students’ ability to count from any number, to any number, by any number.

Β· Mental Math Workout, which asks students to solve problems without a pencil and paper in order to show off their β€œnumber sense.”

The contest is open to all students in grades 2 through 5 in public, private, or home school. Students do not need to be enrolled in Mathnasium to participate. Prep materials, including practice tests, are available on the Mathnasium TriMathlon website (www.mathnasiumtrimathlon.com), where students can also register.

β€œThe event is about getting kids in our local community engaged in math and about supporting local schools,” says Kevin, owner of Mathnasium of Berkeley Lake.
