The accident was reported at 9:46 p.m. on Kingston Court, just off the access road for PIB northbound, Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in an email.

Less than 50 gallons of gasoline leaked from the tanker, Rutledge said. A slight leak of diesel fuel from the truck’s saddle tank also was reported. Firefighters were on the scene until around 2 a.m. during the cleanup process.

Rutledge said crews found the truck on its side partially off the roadway. The driver, who has not been named, was taken to the hospital with a minor injury.

The hazardous materials response team was able to plug the diesel leak from the truck and contain the gasoline leak from the tanker.

β€œIt is estimated that less than 50 gallons of gasoline leaked into a nearby grassy area adjacent to the roadway,” Rutledge said in the email. β€œThe State EPA and EPD were notified of the incident by fire officials. There was minimal runoff in a nearby storm drain and creek bed. Firefighters were successful at containing the runoff and kept the product from entering the waterway.”

Since the incident was on the side of the road, there was no impact on traffic on PIB. One lane of the access road was closed during the incident; two other lanes remained open.

A private cleanup company was called to upright the tanker and offload the remaining gasoline, Rutledge said.
