Update: Felony Murder Charged in Death of 16-Month-Old Boy

Police: Detectives believe Cody Williams struck the child with his hands, causing the fatal injuries.

Gwinnett Police have charged Cody Williams with felony murder in the Monday night death of toddler Noah Nolan, the 16-month-old son of his girlfriend.

"Detectives believe that Williams struck Nolan with his hands, causing the fatal injuries," Cpl. Jake Smith said in an emailed update. "Williams was caring for Nolan and one other sibling at the time of the incident. Nolan's sibling was not injured.  The children's mother was not present. It is not likely that anyone else will be charged in the case, however the investigation is ongoing."

Police have arrested and charged a Gwinnett County, Ga., man in connection with the Monday night death of his girlfriend’s 16-month-old son.

Gwinnett Police said Cody Williams, 23, has been charged with first-degree cruelty to children. He is being held without bond in the county jail.

According to a news release, police said Williams was watching Noah Nolan when the incident occurred around 10 p.m. Monday night, July 21.

Police responded to a call of a deceased child at the Sienna Heights Apartments at 1355 Graves Road. Noah was pronounced dead on arrival at an area hospital.

“There were signs of physical injury,” police said in the release.

WSB-TV reported detectives believe Williams hit the boy with the heel of his hand and shook him.

The department’s Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. An autopsy will be conducted. Additional charges are possible.

No other information was released by Gwinnett Police.
