New Brew Pub Coming To Gwinnett

Good Word Brew Pub is scheduled to open on Parsons Alley by October, its owners say.

DULUTH, GA β€” Gwinnett County will soon be getting its very own brew pub.

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Thursday in Duluth for Good Word Brew Pub, where interior construction has already begun. The nearly 7,500 square-foot brew pub will be on Parsons Alley, the City of Duluth's new restaurant and retail district.

The new spot won't be run by rookies, either. The team behind the popular Brick Store Pub in Decatur is starting up Good Word.

"I had been thinking about the viability of a brew pub or craft beer bar in Gwinnett County for a couple of years," said partner Ryan Skinner. "I always believed it would be viable, but others told me I was crazy.

"It was amazing to see a local government be as interested, invested, and helpful as they were. What they've got going on here is really special and we hope to play a small role in it."

Skinner and partner Todd DiMatteo bring more than 20 years of experience in the pub business to Duluth. Good Word Brew Pub will be their seventh business.

"We are going to be community-driven and hope folks will choose us as a backdrop to their lives and conversations," DiMatteo said. "We will be laid back, give great service, food and beer. We'll have a mix of wood and leather for decor; we're still in that part of the process."

The team hopes to have the brew pub open by mid to late-October. Current plans are to start with dinner service, then expand to serving lunch in the early part of 2018.
