New Peachtree Corners Lawmaker Gets Committee Assignments

Newly elected state Rep. Scott Hilton was sworn into office last week.

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA — Gwinnett County's newly elected state lawmaker, Rep. Scott Hilton, was sworn into office last week and has received his committee assignments.

Hilton, a Republican from Peachtree Corners, was elected in November to replace retiring state Rep. Tom Rice.

"One of the greatest gifts I could ever receive is the opportunity to be a voice for our community," Hilton said in a news release. "It is truly humbling to be given such a responsibility, and I am thrilled to begin working hard on behalf of the citizens of this state."

After being sworn in, Hilton was appointed to the House's Education, Health & Human Services and Intragovernmental Coordination committees."

"Education reform, including the state’s education funding formula, will be an important topic of discussion this legislative session, and as a member of the Education Committee I am dedicated to equipping teachers with the resources they need, increasing school choice, and empowering parents in the education of their children," Hilton said in the release.

"And as the parent of a child with special needs, I am particularly excited to serve as a strong voice and advocate for the entire disability community through my membership on the Health and Human Services Committee. With the expected upcoming changes to healthcare at the federal level, our committee will certainly be busy over the next several years."
