News Nearby: Son Charged After Stabbing Mother With Kitchen Knife
The Duluth 26-year-old reportedly has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

A Duluth man, who is reportedly mentally ill, is in the Gwinnett County Jail on charges he stabbed and critically injured his mother with a kitchen knife.
According to media reports, Clayton Dockery Kirk, 26, allegedly attacked his mother with a kitchen knife in the family’s home around 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18. She was found by Duluth Police in a cul-de-sac off Sidney Lanier Drive around 5:25 p.m.
Kirk is being held without bond in the county jail on charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault, according to jail records.

WSB-TV reported the mother, Sheila Kirk, has lost one kidney from the attack. In an exclusive interview with the TV station, family members said Clayton Kirk has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and was released from a hospital one day before the attack, against the family’s wishes

The Gwinnett Daily Post reported Kirk admitted to the stabbing, but he seemed confused as to why he was in court on Monday, WSB reported.
