No Injuries Reported at Gwinnett Apartment Fire

News Nearby: The fire at the Crestwood Apartments near Norcross happened after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Fire significantly damaged two units of a Norcross-area apartment building Tuesday night.

Gwinnett Fire spokesman Lt. Jerrod Barrett said in a news alert that crews arrived at the Crestwood Apartments on South Norcross Tucker Road at 7:45 p.m., and found heavy smoke coming from the left side of the two-story, eight-unit building.

The building was evacuated as firefighters prepared to battle the blaze.

The fire caused significant damage to the main fire unit as well as the unit above. the fire burned in the wall and floor system and got into the attic. The fire didn’t gut the apartments, but crews had to pull much of the wall and ceiling in the two units. Firefighters were successful in attacking the fire to keep it from spreading to the other units located in the building.

The fire appears to be accidental, but the exact cause is unknown. No injuries were reported.
