North Georgia UMC Conference Makes Decision on Simpsonwood
Conference members voted to empower Board of Trustees to complete sale, but also to preserve chapel, chimney and artifacts.

The North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church posted the following on its website in regards to the organizationβs latest voting on the future of the Simpsonwood Retreat Center in Peachtree Corners. The conference met Saturday in Athens.
In a called session of the Annual Conference, clergy and lay members representing the 900 United Methodist churches in the North Georgia Conference voted to empower the Board of Trustees to continue to act on behalf of the Conference to complete the sale of the Simpsonwood property. Approximately 1,400 people were in attendance.
Members also voted to approve a motion involving moving the offices of the Conference and a motion to preserve the Simpson Chapel and stone chimney that are on Simpsonwood property. A plan is in place to preserve the beloved artifacts such as the Jesus doors and stained glass windows on the property.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reported Saturday that the Board Trustees will continue negotiations with to possibly turn the 227 acres into a passive park.
