> Open House – Sept 8 – 6:00 8:00 PM – City Hall

This will be in council chambers. The event will include workshops and interactive exercises to help envision the future of the Peachtree Corners Central Business District (which includes the Town Center). This is your opportunity to have additional input into our LCI study! You can read more about the meeting and the study on our city web site.

> Planning Commission Meeting – Feb 9 – 7:00 PM – City Hall

The Peachtree Corners Planning Commission will hear a second request from Crowell Brothers Funeral Home to install a crematory in their facility. The original request was withdrawn by Crowell Brothers last year. You can view the application and staff recommendation here.

This is a public hearing. Those opposed and in support of this application will be able to speak. The role of the Planning Commission is to make a recommendation to the City Council to Approve or Deny the request. The Commission can also table the request if they believe that more time is required to gather information.

> City Council Meeting – City Hall – August 19 – Recap

I have attached the agenda. You can see the packet here. The Gwinnett Daily Post has a recap here. It was a very full session.

There was a presentation of the Recycling Rewards. Everyone who recycles and participates in the Recycling Rewards program is eligible. If you are not already a member of the program, you can join here.

The Mayor issued a Proclamation of the City of Peachtree Corners, Georgia recognizing (Mayor Mason) and congratulating Peachtree Corners’ 12U Girls Softball Team on their terrific record.

There was a vote to amend our city codes to bring them more into alignment with our goals as a city. We initially implemented the county code. You can see the changes in the packet. We did not adopt the provision prohibiting vegetable gardens in front yards for now.

A resolution in support of a Crime-Free Multi-Family Housing Program. This program is run by the GCPD and is designed to educate property owners and leasing staff on how to prevent crime in their apartment communities. It has been very effective in significantly reducing crime in the communities around Gwinnett Place Mall. You can read more about this program here.

We approved two alcohol permits, one for Cue’s BBQ on Peachtree Industrial and one for Sprout’s Farmers Market.

We approved an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) for a Service Delivery Strategy between Gwinnett County and the City of Peachtree Corners. This essentially recaps our existing IGA’s with the county.

There were two agreements that were tabled. One, an IGA with John’s Creek to provide road maintenance and repair, replacing the current contract with the county. The other, with CH2MHill to add staff to manage the road work. The second agreement was approved at a special called meeting on September 26.

Many of you know that our web site can be improved. Judy Putnam has done a great job of reorganizing and updating it. The site is very difficult to maintain and update. We approved a contract with Vision Internet for a complete web site rewrite. One of the largest benefits is once the web site is up and running, we can maintain and expand without additional programming. You can get more information on Vision here.

There was also a presentation of the Livable Cities Initiative (LCI) study to date, an update on solid waste collections. Judy Putnam also presented more information on our “Proud to Be Peachtree Corners” campaign. There is more on the LCI study in the newsletter.
