AAA says the national average -- $2.65 as of Sunday -- could fall another 15 cents in August.

Gas prices are falling at the fastest rate since January due to cheaper crude oil and the resolution of some refinery issues, AAA said. The national average as of Sunday was the lowest average for this time of year since 2009, according to the data.

“It feels good to see gas prices drop during the middle of the busy summer driving season,” AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in the briefing. “Millions of people are hitting the roads right now and these gas savings should make their trips more affordable.”

The lowest price reported Monday in Peachtree Corners on AtlantaGasPrice.com was $2.57, but prices were much lower at many locations in nearby Norcross.
