Peachtree Corners Gas Gauge: Summer Prices Could Be Lowest Since 2009

Gas prices rose a nickel during Georgia’s spring break, but we could see big relief at the pump once we hit the road again for summer vacations.

The AAA said in its weekly fuel price briefing that summer driving prices could be the lowest since 2009.

“There is a real possibility we could see prices drop to nearly $2 in some regions,” AAA spokesman Josh Carrasco said in the briefing. “Cheap crude oil should continue to place downward pressure on gas prices, barring any unforeseen events, such as refinery outages or hurricanes.”

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia was $2.25 as of Sunday, up five cents from the previous week, the AAA said. Prices continued to fluctuate as refineries began to move out of the spring maintenance season and prepare for the summer driving season. The national average as of Sunday was $2.39.

The lowest price reported Monday in Peachtree Corners on AtlantaGasPrice.com was $2.26.
