Planning Commission Meeting – Nov. 12 – 7:00 PM - Recap

  • A request to rezone property from M-1, Light Industry, to R-TH at 5555 Spalding Drive, the site of the old Akzo Nobel building that burned down. The request is to construct 25 attached single-family townhomes ranging in size from 2,250 to 3,500 square feet. Recommended approval.
  • A request for a special use permit to allow a pawn shop in a C-2 zoning district for property located at 6385 Spalding Drive. This is in the small shopping center at the corner of Spalding and Holcomb Bridge The pawn shop is currently located across the street. Recommended denial.
  • A request to approve the concept plan for the new town center. Recommended approval.

There are some very interesting items on the agenda. It is also very packed! I will give a brief recap of the major items. You can see all of the items in the attached agenda. Full detail is available in the packet here.

  • Public hearing for rezoning request for Oglethorpe, 20 single family homes at the corner of Spalding Terrace and Spalding Drive across from Norcross High. Change from R-100 to R-60.
  • Request for Alcoholic Beverage License by Express Supermercado at 3330 Peachtree Corners Circle, Ste G, Peachtree Corners GA 30093.
  • A four month moratorium for the issuance of licenses or permits for the manufacture, possession, distribution, and sale by the package of distilled spirits. This will allow time for the city to adopt processes and codes related to this.
  • Resolutions to reappoint members of the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appealswhose terms are expiring.
  • First reads of the rezoning requests heard by the Planning Commission last week (above). The hearings will be at our December Council meeting.
  • Consideration of GDOT Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) Planning & Engineering Award, design of sidewalk project along Winters Chapel Road. The Georgia Department of Transportation awarded the City of Peachtree Corners $138,202.38 for the Winters Chapel Sidewalk project. These funds were awarded through their Local Maintenance Improvement Grant program. The funds were received on March 30, 2014. This action item is to award the design contract.   • Consideration of Intergovernmental Agreements for Joint SPLOST Projects with Gwinnett County for the widening of S. R. 141, intersection improvements at Buford Highway & Jimmy Carter Blvd. and widening of Spalding Drive from Winters Chapel Road to Holcomb Bridge Road. The 141 improvement adds a lane on 141 southbound at the split. The lane will go all the way to Winters Chapel to help improve the southbound merge. You can see the details in the packet.
  • Consideration of Intergovernmental Agreements for Joint SPLOST City Managed Project with Gwinnett County for intersection improvements at Holcomb Bridge Rd. and Jimmy Carter Blvd.
  • Discussion on Business Incubators by the Gwinnett Chamber.
  • Update on Green Committee and Review of Proposed Draft Policies.
  • Update on City Branding/Window Clings.
  • Update on Code Enforcement.
  • Update on Solid Waste.
  • EXECUTIVE SESSION – Discussion of Real Estate Matter.

Town Hall Meeting - November 19 - 7:00 PM - Avocet Clubhouse

Join Mayor Mike Mason, Councilman Alex Wright and me for an update on city events and news. Our special guest will be Greg Ramsey, our new Public Works Director. The clubhouse address is 4820 Avocet Drive. Just follow Avocet Drive down the hill to the stop sign and take a right into the amenities area.

LCI Open House - November 20 - 6:00 – 8:00 PM – City Hall

Please plan on attending this final workshop on Nov. 20 between 6-8 p.m. at City Hall to weigh-in on conceptual plans for growth around Technology Park, design alternatives for new parks, trails and pedestrian connections along Peachtree Parkway, and strategies for future economic development around the City’s center.

Town Hall Meeting - November 20 - 7:00 PM - Fields Club

Councilwoman Lorri Christopher, Councilman Weare Gratwick and Councilman Alex Wright will take questions and provide information.

UPCCA Star Awards - November 17 – 6:00 PM – Christ the King Lutheran Church

The event will begin at 6:00 pm and catering is compliments of Atlanta Bread Company at The Forum on Peachtree Parkway. Everyone is invited and dinner is on us, so we hope to see you there. Please RSVP at rsvp@upcca.org.

Christmas in the Corners – November 22 – 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM - The Corners Parkway

This was a great even last year and will be even bigger this year. The parade starts at 10:00 but there will be many more activities and great food. NEW this year to Candy Cane Lane, along with Santa’s Workshop & Food Trucks will be our new “The Village Shoppes” Art and Crafts Booths. Check out all the news here.
