The Georgia Environmental Authority will contribute $9,863 towards recharging equipment for two vehicles.

“This grant represents the first task completed on our list of things to do toward becoming a certified “Green City,” said Wheeler. “Kudos to Lynn Pierson [the city’s Zoning Administrator] for a job well done in securing the grant.”

The grants were only available to Georgia colleges, universities, technical colleges and government agencies.

Peachtree Corners was one of the first cities to apply for the grant as the city strives to become recognized by the Atlanta Regional Commission for environmentally sustainable practices.

“We plan to submit our application to the ARC next year to become a Certified Green Community because being good stewards of the environment is important to our community,” said Wheeler.

“We’re extremely pleased to hear that the City of Peachtree Corners was selected to receive the electric car recharge station grant,” said Mayor Mike Mason. “This is a significant accomplishment as the city’s Green Committee was formed only a few months ago.”

The Green Committee, which is made up of a group of select citizens, was formed in May 2014 to help Peachtree Corners achieve certification as an Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) Green Community. The ARC Green Communities Program is a voluntary program to encourage local governments set an example by conserving energy, investing in renewable energy, conserving water, conserving fuel, reducing waste and protecting and restoring the community’s natural resources.

The charging station will be available to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Installation is expected to be complete by March, 2015.
