Peachtree Corners to Swear In First New Council Member

Eric Christ will join a mayor and council members who have all served since Peachtree Corners was founded in 2012.

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA -- Political leaders come and political leaders go -- it's the way of democracy.

But, in Peachtree Corners, the mayor and city council will be marking a first on Tuesday night. For the first time since the city was founded, they'll be welcoming someone new into their ranks.

Eric Christ, who was elected to city council in a special election on May 24, will be sworn into office at the council's Tuesday meeting.

Christ, 48, defeated Stephen Peet, collecting 632 votes to Peet's 325.

"I am humbled and grateful for those who voted for me," Christ said at the time. "And I look forward to serving all of my Post 2 neighbors. I will bring to the city council the ideas and suggestions I heard while knocking on doors during my campaign."

He'll be the first new face ever to grace council chambers.

The current mayor and all other serving city council members were elected in 2012, when the city was formed, and all were sworn in together on April 12, 2012.

When they came up for re-election, no one challenged Mayor Mike Mason or any of the sitting council members.

The Post 2 vacancy that Christ will fill was created when council member Jay Lowe resigned to run for the state House of Representatives. Lowe was defeated in his bid to replace retiring state Rep. Tom Rice.
