Residents who travel through the city during rush hour know all too well the intersections where traffic tie ups can slow them down. Thanks to nearly $20 million in SPLOST funds, relief is on its way.
The City of Peachtree Corners will partner with Gwinnett County’s Commissioners on four transportation projects as part of the 2014 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).

These projects were approved as part of Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) approved by Peachtree Corners Mayor and City Council on Nov. 11, 2014 and by Gwinnett County Commissioners on Dec. 9, 2014.
1. Peachtree Parkway (S.R. 141) at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. The proposed project will create an additional southbound lane on Peachtree Parkway from Holcomb Bridge Road onto the “controlled access” portion of S.R. 141 and create an additional lane on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard southbound to Winters Chapel Road. This will be a joint project between Peachtree Corners Public Works, Gwinnett County and Georgia Department of Transportation. The county will contribute $1.62 million and the city $380,000 in SPLOST funds.

2. Buford Highway at Jimmy Carter Boulevard. The city and county will fund $3 million toward the estimated cost of $10 million for the right-of-way to improve traffic operations to the intersection.
3. Widening of Spalding Drive from Winters Chapel Road to Holcomb Bridge Road. The work will improve the angle and narrow lanes for vehicle operation and safety and to alleviate a bottleneck leaving and entering the city. The total project cost is estimated at $3 million with $730,000 from the city and county.
4. Safety Improvements at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Holcomb Bridge Road. The project at the corner of Jimmy Carter Boulevard (State Route 140) and Holcomb Bridge Road will be managed by the Peachtree Corners Public Works Staff. Improvements involve intersection operations, safety improvements for vehicles and pedestrians.Approximately $600,000 is allocated for this project.
“These are four important projects that, when complete, will be major improvements for our residents and businesses,” said Mayor Mike Mason.
Work on the projects are expected to begin in 2015.
