Peachtree Corners Waffle House Fails Restaurant Inspection

The restaurant on Jimmy Carter Boulevard was cited for employee's food handling, black mold in ice machine, and food splatter.

A Peachtree Corners-area Waffle House was cited for several violations in a failed health inspection this week.

The Waffle House located at 7044 Jimmy Carter Boulevard drew a failing score of 57 (failing is 69 and below) during a Gwinnett County health inspection on Wednesday, Dec. 17.

The inspector found problems with employee food handling, food storage, black mold in the ice machine and food debris and splatter on ”cleaned” plates, bowls and cups, and near the food prep area.

A followup inspection will be held within 10 days.

Inspector’s observations and correction actions, as listed on the report:

  • Observed no original ServSafe certificate stored in the facility. A photocopy was presented. The original CFSM certificate shall be posted in public view in each food service establishment. New Violation.
  • Observed employee crack eggs and continued to engaged in handling ready to eat food without washing hands. Had the employee to cease food prep and wash hands. Hands shall be washed immediately after contact with raw eggs and handling ready to eat food. Corrected On-Site. New Violation.
  • Observed biscuits stored directly on top of shelled eggs in the walk in cooler 2) observed raw steak stored directly above hash browns in the walk in cooler 3) observed an opened box of steak stored directly above a box of minute maid juices in the walk in freezer. Items were removed and stored in the proper position. Food shall be protected from contamination by separating raw animal foods during storage, prep, holding, and display from raw or cooked ready-to-eat foods Corrected On-Site. New Violation.
  • Observed employee handle ready to eat bread after handling raw shell eggs. Asked the employee to discard bread. The bread was taken out unsafe and not discarded upon request. Another manager came in and discussed the issue with the employee and assisted with cooking. Food shall be discarded after becoming contaminated. Corrected On-Site. New Violation.
  • Observed a black mold like substance located inside the upper cavity of the ice machine. During the inspection, employees began pouring hot water in the machine to begin the cleaning process. Ice machine shall be cleaned at a frequency that eliminates the accumulation of soil or mold. New Violation.
  • Observed several plates, bowls, and cups stored clean throughout the kitchen prep area having food debris and splatter. The bowls, plates, and cups were taken down to be cleaned. Food contact surfaces shall be cleaned at a frequency to eliminate soil and food residue. New Violation.
  • Upon inspection, the correct start time or the discard time was not on the eggs. Time was placed on the eggs during inspection. Foods shall be marked or otherwise identified to indicate the start time and discard time on food. Corrected On-Site. Repeat Violation.
  • Observed chlorine sanitizer in the metal containers with a concentration over 200 ppm. Chlorine sanitizer was remade to 100 ppm. Chlorine sanitize shall not exceed 200 ppm. Corrected On-Site. New Violation.
  • Observed employee handle cracked eggs and used those same gloves to handle ready to eat foods. Had the employee discard gloves. Gloves shall be discarded after becoming contaminated. Corrected On-Site. New Violation.
  • Observed food splatter and debris on the back walls and splatter on the back walls by the waffle makers in the food prep area. Employees began cleaning while on site. Corrected On-Site. New Violation.
