Police: Couple Used Fake $100 Bills at Gwinnett County Stores

A man and woman from North Carolina allegedly used counterfeit currency to make purchases when stores were busy with customers.

A man and woman from North Carolina are behind bars in Gwinnett County, charged with passing counterfeit $100 bills at several area businesses.

Gwinnett Police said Aaron Fleetwood, 31, and Megan Foster, 25, both of Raleigh, N.C., face nine counts each of first-degree forgery (a felony) after an investigator found they were allegedly taking turns using the fake bills to make purchases at stores in the Duluth area.

Duluth Police first arrested the pair for trying to pass counterfeit money at the Walmart on Pleasant Hill Road on Sunday, July 5.

During the arrest, Duluth PD found receipts from other businesses outside the city limits and alerted Gwinnett Police of their arrest.

Nine receipts were from stores in the Satellite Boulevard/Pleasant Hill Road area: Rainbow, Rue21, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Avenue, Once Upon a Child, Plato’s Closet and Jo Anne Fabrics.

An investigator with Gwinnett PD visited the stores and found that the suspects had been using the fake bills at those locations.

“These transactions occurred during busy times when the stores were occupied by other customers,” Gwinnett Police spokesperson Cpl. Michele Pihera said. “Many of these purchases were for small amounts.”

With the help of Duluth PD, U.S. Secret Service and three banks, the investigator collected enough evidence to get felony warrants for the couple’s arrest.

It is possible that Fleetwood or Foster made other purchases in Gwinnett County using counterfeit currency. If a business has been victimized, contact Detective Cultarevic at 770-513-5399 or GCPD Detectives at 770-513-5300.
