Police Don't Know Why Dead Man, SUV Ended Up in Marsh
The man and vehicle were found Thursday night off Oakbrook Parkway.

Gwinnett investigators are trying to piece together what happened before police found a dead male in an SUV submerged in a marshy area near Norcross Thursday night.
Police said in a Friday afternoon email that the driver was unrestained at the time of the incident, but it is still not known why and when the vehicle got there.
“At this time, it is unknown why the driver left the roadway and traveled through the woods before overturning his vehicle in the marsh,” Gwinnett Cpl. Michele Pihera said in the email. “Investigators still don’t know exactly when this collision occurred.”

The man’s identity is known, but will not be released until a next of kin is notified.
Police were called around 8 p.m. Thursday on a report of a submerged vehicle in the marsh off Oakbrook Parkway near Norcross. The SUV was found overturned in the water, with the deceased man inside.

Investigators believe the SUV was travelling northbound on Oakbrook, just past Jeurgens Court, when the incident happened. The airbags were deployed during the crash.
