In a Monday morning news alert, Gwinnett Police said Gary Cornelius Scott, 53, was arrested stemming from an April 20 incident in which a uniform supervisor assigned to the West Precinct saw an emaciated dog walking on the sidewalk on Peachtree Corners Circle near Parton Court.

The female dog appeared to be malnourished and skeletal, police said.

The supervisor also reported seeing a man, later identified as Scott, who was holding a leash behind the dog.

“The supervisor pulled over, and the dog walked to her immediately,” Gwinnett Police Cpl. Michele Pihera said in a news release. “The brown dog [Doberman] also had visible scars and blood on her abdomen.”

Scott allegedly told police he thought the dog belonged to a neighbor, but later at a local animal clinic, a microchip on the dog indicated Scott was the owner. The address linked to the microchip does not exist and was different than the one Scott gave to the supervisor.

Warrants were taken out on Scott for aggravated cruelty to animals and giving a false address. Scott was bookd into the Gwinnett County Jail Monday morning.
