The Psi Omega Omega A.S.C.E.N.D. Academy is designed to motivate, engage and assist high school students in grades 9-12 in reaching their maximum potential, focusing on Achievement, Self-Awareness, Communication, Engagement, Networking and Developmental Skills. Upon completion of the A.S.C.E.N.D. Academy, students participate in a graduation ceremony, with skills preparing them for college or a vocational career and leadership. The program’s goal is to collectively graduate 20,000 ASCEND Academy Scholars throughout the Sorority by July 2018.
Since February 2015, the Psi Omega Omega A.S.C.E.N.D. Academy scholars have received academic enrichment and life skills training on a monthly basis to support their journey to college or vocational employment upon graduating from high school. The Academy meets three hours on the third Saturday of each month (11 a.m. – 2 p.m.) and students are engaged in a team-building activity, skills workshop, career and college exploration activities, civic engagement and cultural enrichment activities. The A.S.C.E.N.D. curriculum includes modules in public speaking and presentation skills, budget and finance, college and career application writing, Model United Nations simulation classroom, and a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) workshop. The A.S.C.E.N.D.
