No one was home at the residence in the 6300 block of Glenbrook Drive during the fire, but one dog, three cats, one bird and aquarium fish were lost in the blaze, Gwinnett Fire PIO Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.

Firefighters arrived on scene around 2:49 p.m., Rutledge said, and found an active fire in the walls and floor system, and in the basement and part of the attic. The fire caused heavy damage inside the house.

The fire appears to be accidental and originated in the basement, Rutledge said, possibly in the area of the hot water heater and furnace.

Two occupants were displaced and requested Red Cross assistances. One pet dog escaped.
