60 Evacuated After Small Hotel Fire Started in Basket of Oil Rags

Around 60 guest and hotel staff were temporarily evacuated due to a small fire reported overnight at the Hilton Garden Inn near Duluth.

The fire, which started in a basket of cooking oil rags, was quickly extinguished by the sprinkler system.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Monday at the hotel located at 2040 Sugarloaf Circle, near the Gwinnett Center.

The hotel was evacuated as firefighters investigated. Guests and staff were allowed back in the building once crews cleared the hotel.
